BLACK BOX II by Natalie Dionne Architecture
블랙박스 II는 기존 건축물에 설치해서 큰 효과를 거둘 수 있게 해주는 제품라인에서 가장 최근에 출시된 제품이다. 주얼리 박스처럼 제작된 이 제품의 거대한 오프닝은 내부와 외부의 경계를 모호하게 하고 상호보완적인 표면재료들에 대한 활용을 통해 내부의 질감을 그대로 표현하고 있다.
또한 로지아를 모티브로 하는 리벳으로 조립된 무지개빛의 검은색 섬유 시멘트판으로 제작되었으며 이와는 대조적으로 금빛의 목재, 밝은 포세린과 세라믹이 내부를 환하게 비춰준다. 정원은 집 내부와 통합할 수 있도록 거대한 유리창을 접이식으로 설치하여 내부 소재와 외부가 서로 상호작용해 공간을 연결해 준다. 내부에서는 오크우드 패널이 건물의 벽과 천장을 커버해주는 반면에 웨스턴 레드시더 래티스가 외부의 알코브를 아름답게 꾸며준다.그리고 테라스의 슬레이트 슬라브가 주방의 콘크리트 같은 포세린 바닥과 연결된다. 과거의 유산을 그대로 간직하고 있는 독창적인 식당의 오크우드 바닥이 전체적인 분위기를 조성해 주고 있다.
솔리드 오크로 만들어진 주방을 중앙에 위치시킴으로써 동선을 최소화 했으며 주변부에는 심플한 흰색이나 검은색 가구를 배치했다.
이 프로젝트는 건축업자와 시공자 그리고 실소유자 간의 협의를 통해 기술적 퀄리티와 미적 퀄리티를 모두 추구했으며 이러한 노력은 이 건축물의 모든 측면을 통해 드러나고 있다.
빨간색 진흙벽돌로 제작된 반단독 타운하우스는 웨스트마운트와 몬트리올의 Notre-Dame-de-Gr?ce에서 볼 수 있는 전형적인 건축물로 오래된 내부 분리형 주택의 재구성과 2개의 검은색 볼륨에 대한 병렬배치를 통해 기존 건축물을 개선하고 변형시킴으로써 거주자들의 모던한 라이프스 타일과 열망을 잘 반영할 수 있도록 하였다.
BLACK BOX II is the latest in a series of tiny additions impacting existing architecture in a big way. Conceived as a jewelry box, large openings blur the interior/exterior boundary, revealing its treasure of fine cabinetmaking work within through the playful use of complementary surface materials.
The BLACK BOX II addition is covered with large plates of iridescent, black fibre cement board, with a perforated motif for the loggia, finely assembled with matching rivets. In contrast, blond wood and light porcelain and ceramics, illuminate the interior.
When large windows fold open to incorporate
the garden into the home, interior and exterior materials interact to connect spaces. Inside, oak wood paneling covers the walls and ceiling of the shed, while a lattice of western red cedar lines the exterior alcove. The slate slabs of the terrace adjoin the concrete-like porcelain floor of the kitchen. Heritage of the past, the original oak wood floor of the dining room, preserved and restored, set the tone.
The kitchen island, made of solid oak, stands monumentally in the centre and serves as an altar to daily rituals. At the perimeter stands, more soberly, white or black furniture and cabinetry.
This project is a plea for constructive art, recognizing the complicity between the architect, the builders and the owners, all actively involved in the search for quality, both technical and aesthetic. The art of architecture manifests itself here in all its dimensions.
This semi-detached townhouse, made of red clay brick, is typical of Westmount and the Notre-Dame-de-Gr?ce borough of Montreal. Through the reconfiguration of outdated internal divisions and the grafting of two black volumes in juxtaposition, the pre-existing architecture is enhanced and transformed to better reflect the modern lifestyle and aspirations of its inhabitants. We are always striving to strike the right balance between new and old in order to create a coherent whole, preserving the authenticity of the existing details while affirming the contemporaneity of our interventions.
